Half Machine

Real Estate is a low-fi, garage surf-pop band that mixes in blues and folk overtones that come together well for a fun listening experience. They’re confident in their musicianship and they offer their brand of sound unapologetic-ally and I’m pleased with the direction in which vocalist Martin Courtney and the Real Estate crew decided to debut.

Bands who dabbled in the surf-pop genre last year like Wavves lacked musicality and Girls seemed more like an interpretation (albeit a great one) but Real Estate focuses on just making great tracks that happen to challenge listeners just enough.

Tracks like “Suburban Beverage” and “Let’s Rock The Beach” are great examples of the mellow mood they are reaching for but spiked with timely instrument play. The guitars on “Suburban Beverage” effortlessly prop up the song until the climax where it takes over and rides the melody to the conclusion of the song.

The final track, “Snow Days” is the easiest track to love as it follows two instrumentals and Courtney absolutely nails the wistful vocals. A fitting goodbye as they say you should always leave an audience wanting more.
